Job Summary

Murrell Library and Commons at Missouri Valley College, a private liberal arts college in Marshall, Missouri, is looking for a Public Relations, Marketing, and Special Events Coordinator. This full-time staff member will plan and oversee special events and activities that enrich cultural and social programs and lifelong learning, develop library marketing strategies and campaigns, work with social media, and promote internal and external communications. This position reports to the Director of the Library.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Outreach and Special Events - Actively seeks, organizes, and coordinates outreach programs, exhibitions, and special events. Some evening or weekend hours required.
  2. Public Relations and Marketing - Creates and disseminates library marketing materials, works with social media, and updates website. Searches and writes grant proposals.
  3. Library Duties -  Manages library reserves. Assists with circulation, reference, and library tutorials and classes. Helps shelve items and maintain library appearance. Performs other work and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required, with an academic background and/or experience in one or more of the following fields: Graphic arts, marketing, communications, advertising, public relations, or journalism. Excellent knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets, social media, graphic design, and layout.  Ability to communicate with culturally-diverse patrons. Effective organization skills. Knowledge of or ability to learn library software, internet, and library databases.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience or knowledge of library operations, software, and services. Experience with public relations, graphics, or marketing.
