Job Summary

Rockhurst University seeks a collaborative and proactive Access and Learning Services Librarian for the Greenlease Library of Rockhurst University. This position reports to the Research, Learning and Assessment Services Librarian and is responsible for the planning, coordination and administration of Access Services. This position manages 20+ part-time student assistants. Essential functions include: oversees Access Services functions such as opening and closing the library, circulation processes, shelving, fines and billing, interlibrary loan, reserves, patron gate count; participation in learning services such as library instruction, creation of instruction design tutorials and research guides; oversees hiring, training and supervision of student assistants and coordinates with other library staff for daily supervision responsibilities of student assistants; provides reference assistance to patrons; compiles statistics, analyzes data, and prepares reports relating to areas of responsibility; confers regularly with supervisor, reviewing, suggesting, and developing services, policies, and procedures consistent with the Research, Learning and Assessment Services department’s mission; participates in library staff meetings and regional access services meetings. This position has liaison responsibilities to academic departments to facilitate collection development. Service on university committees and in regional, state or national professional associations is expected and supported.

Rockhurst seeks candidates for this position who have proven successful progressively responsible experience in the following areas: supervision, instruction, circulation, interlibrary loan and document delivery systems, databases, face-to-face and virtual reference services, collaborative software, cloud technology and Microsoft applications used in routine operations, such as OneDrive, Word and Excel.

Specific educational and experience requirements:

  • Master's of Library Science or equivalent degree from an American Library Association accredited university or college
  • Supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated instructional teaching skills and understanding of instructional pedagogy and interactive teaching models
  • Evidence of progressively responsible library experience that includes use of library circulation, reserve, interlibrary loan, and document delivery systems
  • Excellent listening, writing, speaking and analytical skills are required for this position, as are integrity and candor.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience
  • Demonstrated initiative and project management skills
