Job Summary

Under general direction of the Director of Library & Content Strategy, the Assistant Director assists in planning and directing the operations and activities of Stafford Library. Responsibilities include our library instruction program, assisting in the college archives, and providing outreach to college departments and off-campus partners. The Assistant Director also supervises our part-time staff and student assistants.

  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College’s vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the Stafford Library Department.
  • Assist the Director with short and long range planning and assessment.
  • Act as Director in the absence of the Director of Stafford Library.
  • Manage the library instruction program, including assessment.
  • Oversee the creation and updating of subject guides, course guides, tutorials, etc. in various formats.
  • Plan and administer library events for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the College Archives.
  • Provide outreach to partners both on and off campus.
  • Create social media posts and promote Stafford Library and the Archives.
  • Manage the research services desk and virtual chat scheduling
  • Gather, compile, and present statistics relevant to Stafford Library.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate the performance of the Library Assistant – Evening/Weekend Supervisor(s) and Student Assistants.
  • Represent Stafford Library and Columbia College on various college or professional library committees or organizations.
  • Perform general reference and circulation duties.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College’s vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the Stafford Library Department.
  • Practice superior customer service.
  • Display respect and civility to all constituencies in all communications.
  • Attend work timely and on a regular basis during the established hours of operation; work additional hours as business necessitates.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An ALA Accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Science 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three to five years’ experience in a professional library position.
  • Coursework or training in Archives.
  • Supervisory experience.
