Job Description

The College of Engineering has an opening for a position that will provide library and reference services, training and technical support for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). MoDOT partners with the College of Engineering for this program which provides reference services pertaining to the research needs of MoDOT. Other limited services may be provided to other public agencies and state DOTs; stakeholders such as legislative representatives; and the public. The position also manages a special collection at the Missouri State Library; catalogs, maintains and expands the collection; circulates materials; develops administrative systems as needed; and liaises with information professionals on a national level. Publication design and web development skills are used to facilitate the dissemination of project findings. This full time position is located in Jefferson City, Missouri. The position splits time between MoDOT's Research Section offices (1617 Missouri Blvd) and the Missouri State Library (600 West Main Street). Employment is contingent upon the availability of external grant funds. Job Hire Date: July 1, 2019.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution (Degree candidates who expect to graduate prior to September 1, 2019 will be considered.)
  • Valid Missouri driver's license
  • Ability to work very independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems, preferably Innovative Interfaces' Sierra software
  • Experience in cataloging
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Experience working with transportation and/or engineering research
  • Familiarity with the OCLC Connexion client
  • Experience with national cataloging rules and working with MARC formats
  • Experience with using Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) and LC classification
  • Familiarity with the Transportation Research International Documentation (TRID) and Research in Progress (RiP) databases
  • Experience with Web development (such as HTML or Cascading Style Sheets) and/or working with web publishing software
  • Proficiency in ability to format print or online publications using desktop software, graphic design software or web-based methods
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Any experience in technical writing or editing a plus

Salary

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
