Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Head of Distributed Libraries in the Research and Academic Collaboration Division, the Al and Ruth Kopolow Business Librarian is responsible for the overall planning and operation of the Al and Ruth Kopolow Business Library to provide effective library services to faculty, students, and staff in the Olin Business School, as well as the University and wider community. Responsible for collection development and management for business. Responsible for research assistance, instruction and outreach, scholarly communication and publishing, and resource discovery efforts in business. Contributes and participates in activities related to the University Libraries Assessment Program. Supervises staff of the Business Library.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Leads, plans, designs, directs and manages operations of the Business Library to provide effective services to faculty, students, and staff in the Olin Business School programs as well as the University and wider community. In conjunction with WUSTL Libraries planning, contributes to the vision and direction of the Business Library, provides leadership in implementing innovative services and new technology. Participate in and develop specialized information literacy instruction for business majors and graduate student. Provide in-depth, subject-related research consultations as well as related services such as the creation and maintenance of web guides to support the discovery and use of information related to business. Establishes relationships with faculty, administrators and students to plan and promote library services.
Serves as liaison and provides outreach and research services to academic departments and programs. Provide general reference services, both virtual and in-person, for the University community as well as members of the public. In consultation with stakeholders, select and curate resources for the library’s collections.  Designs, teaches, and assesses instruction sessions, including working with faculty to develop curriculum-integrated instructional programs. Keep current on relevant new developments in collection development, research, outreach, and instruction   . Provide faculty and students timely information regarding the existence of new databases. Facilitate faculty in the process of discovery, acquisition, and use of new databases. Provides consultation to faculty and students of the existing resources to meet their academic and scholarly need.

2. Develop the Libraries’ collections in designated subject areas. This includes evaluation, selection, and de-selection of materials in all relevant media.  Maintain effective communication with faculty in these areas. Manage services, collections and operations. Oversee collection development, including acquisitions funds supporting the business programs.

3. Recruit assigned staff, recommend their appointment; supervise and provide for continued training, and carry out the Libraries' approved performance appraisal program for all staff. Plan for student staffing and prepare budget requests. In collaboration with the operational planning and assessment department manages facilities maintenance, including safety and security for users, staff and collections in the Library.

4. Engage in campus-wide initiatives, consortial partnerships, and regional, state, or national organizations as appropriate to foster new partnerships in support of the Library’s goal to expand its reach through engagement and collaboration. Participate in the library's general instruction program for undergraduates. Serve on library, university, and professional committees as elected or appointed.  Performs other duties as assigned.

5. Participates in relevant professional development learning opportunities to maintain currency in the field.
 
Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school or advanced degree in a social science discipline such as business, statistics, economics, etc. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Working experience in a business library or an academic library.
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience.
  • 1-3 years experience providing business research support in an academic or other research library setting.
  • 1-3 years experience using specialized financial databases and business data sources such as Bloomberg, Datastream, Capital IQ, SDC Platinum, and/or WRDS as well as open resources to help users carry out market, industry, and product research.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills including the ability to coach a team.
  •  Strong service attitude with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to do detail-oriented work, including strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse population.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a changing environment.
  • An understanding of the information needs of a research university.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or coursework in business or related discipline.
  • Experience with finding and using financial, economic, or other numeric data.
  • Knowledge of data management and data archiving procedures.
  • Experience with vendor relations.
  • Experience in acquiring and managing access to electronic resources.
  • Experience with integrated library systems. Familiarity with Innovative Interfaces Sierra system desirable.
  • Evidence of contribution and involvement in professional development.

Salary Range
 
The hiring range for this position is $59,612 - $77,532 annually.
