Job Summary

Rockhurst University seeks a part-time Archives Specialist for the Greenlease Library. The position is responsible for making archival content in all formats accessible and discoverable for educational and research purposes.   Specific responsibilities include:

  • Selecting, arranging, and describing the records of the University, in accordance with accepted standards and practices.
  • Ensuring the preservation and organization of archives while maintaining access to the collections.
  • Assisting researchers and conducting research to answer inquiries regarding archival collections.
  • Assisting with the administrative needs of the archives includes monitoring and ordering archives supplies, creating reports and the organization of departmental files.
  • Assisting with the supervision of student assistants and interns in the archives.
  • Assisting in the development of archives policies and procedures, which includes teamwork in problem solving, planning, executing solutions, and evaluating results. 

This para-professional position is a member of the Content Management and Discovery Services department and reports to the Content Management and Discovery Services Librarian.  This is a part –time, non-exempt, 30-hour per week position eligible for benefits.

Qualified candidates will have a Masters of Library Science degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association or comparable post-graduate degree or equivalent Master’s degree from an accredited institution;  knowledge of standard library and archival methods and classification systems; effective analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills; the ability to work independently, following established procedures and to work collaboratively to create new procedures;  the ability to think critically and shift perspective in order to create effective arrangements and descriptions of archival collections;  demonstrated ability to perform detailed tasks with a high degree of accuracy; the ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands;  the ability to take initiative and be accountable for results; the ability to maintain confidentiality;  the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituents;

Desired qualifications include experience with processing in an archives collection; archival coursework, internship or practicum; knowledge and skill using ArchivesSpace and other systems, databases and applications dealing with archives; commitment to a development plan which encourages knowledge and skill enhancement for this position and others which report to it.
