Job Summary

MANDATORY: (M1) Master’s degree in library and information science or a related field from an ALA-accredited institution of higher learning; (M2) Two years of experience working in an instructional capacity in an academic library; (M3) Willingness to experiment with new instructional methods and technologies; (M4) Desire to actively engage in campus and community outreach activities to promote the libraries and build partnerships; (M5) Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines; (M6) Strong attention to detail and self-management skills; (M7) Availability to work some evening and weekend hours; (M8) Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures; (M9) Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff and faculty; (M10) Strong oral and written communication skills; (M11) Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

DESIRABLE: (D1) Familiarity with educational theories, instructional design strategies, and active learning pedagogies; (D2) Familiarity with a variety of educational technologies; (D3) Experience assessing student learning; (D4) Fluency with ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education; (D5) Experience with Sierra (or similar Library Services Platform), Canvas (or similar Learning Management System), Colleague (or similar Student Information System), and/or WordPress (or similar Content Management System).

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

The Instruction Librarian will lead the library’s efforts to collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy into the curriculum for all modalities used for delivery of instruction. Other major responsibilities include building sustainable partnerships with campus programs and initiatives that support teaching and learning and serving as a resource for library staff about instructional methods and technologies

Essential Job Duties

  • Teach students and faculty to understand the modern information ecosystem, to critically evaluate information sources, and to use information sources appropriately and ethically. This may take the form of delivering course-integrated library instruction or stand-alone workshops; developing web content and tutorials; and other activities as appropriate.
  • Actively cultivate and maintain relationships with faculty and students by promoting instructional collaborations and marketing the Libraries’ resources and services.
  • Serve as a resource for library staff about instructional methods, technologies and assessment of student learning.
  • Provide a variety of research services to patrons, including general reference assistance delivered primarily via chat or in-person.
  • Provide one-on-one research assistance to patrons by appointment.
  • Contribute to the mission of the OTC Libraries by participating in the development and evaluation of policies and services, assessing user needs and satisfaction, and engaging in the annual strategic planning process.
  • Participate in collection development decision-making.
  • Contribute to training and supervising library student workers.
  • Develop and maintain skills by participating in continuing education and professional development activities such as conferences, workshops, and committee work; by self-directed professional reading; or by engaging in other creative and learning activities, particularly as they relate to information literacy instruction.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees and attending community events.
