MVC Murrell Library to Host first Viking Con

Marshall, Mo. (August 31, 2017) — Murrell Library located on the Missouri Valley College campus will host their first Viking Con from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., on Monday, September 25. Viking Con is a convention for fans of all types of pop culture such as “Star Wars”, “Game of Thrones”,The X-Men” or “The Walking Dead” to celebrate their fandoms.

Individuals are encouraged to dress as their favorite fictional character, although it is not a requirement. Activities such as mask and wand making will take place throughout the night and will be available for all ages. A few special events will take place during the evening, including speakers and contests.

Comic book author and world renowned artist Frank Stack will speak in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre located on the Missouri Valley College campus at 6 p.m., with a brief intermission before author and comic book artist Nick Francis Potter speaks at 7 p.m. Frank Stack’s work will be on display in the Morris Gallery of Contemporary Art located directly across from Eckilson-Mabee Theatre and will be open for all attendees to tour. In addition, work by local cartoon artist Keith Brown will be on display in the library throughout the evening.

A costume contest will be held at 8 p.m. and a Marvel Comics and Harry Potter trivia contest will take place at 9 p.m. Both contests will be held in Murrell Library.

“I hear about comic cons from all over the world, big and small,” said Jae Steinkuhler, Murrell Library special events coordinator.  “I figured it was time Valley had one of their own​. I am very excited to listen to the artist discussions and to see all of the costumes that attendees will wear.”
