Earth Day at the Park, Money Smart Week coming up at library

Christian County Library has two community-building events planned during the last weeks of April, with learning opportunities and fun for children, teens, and adults. The first is Earth Day at the Park, happening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.Saturday at Finley River Park in Ozark, just across Riverside Road from the library. The library’s Earth Day celebration is designed to get the community outdoors and thinking about easy ways we can be more earth-friendly in our daily lives.

This event will kick off with a Dutch Oven Cooking Demonstration with Ozarks Dutch Oven Group at 10 a.m., followed by demonstrations of wooden pallet building projects including a backyard bar and a chicken coop. Kayaking demonstrations will begin on the river at 12:30 with Ozark Mountain Trading Company. At 1 p.m., Ted Keller from Missouri Sun Solar will give a presentation on solar energy. There will also be live music from Classic Country Trio beginning at 11 a.m., a kite-making table with artist Angie Schade, and life-sized board games to play with the library’s Teen Advisory Board. While you’re there, you can sign up for a library card, find out more about the library’s expansion and election plans, and take home a free tree seedling from the Missouri Department of Conservation in honor of Arbor Day. Bring chairs or blankets if you like.

The second event planned is Money Smart Week. Money Smart Week is a national event that connects consumers with resources to help manage their personal finances better. The library is hosting five Money Smart Week events during the week (April 22-29), and featuring various financial resources in the library, both print and online, available for free for library patrons throughout the week. Here are Money Smart Week program details, all happening at the Christian County Library in Ozark:
