POSITION SUMMARY:

Library Assistant II, Systems and Special Collections & Archives
Kent Library
Full Time, 12 month position

 

 
The Library Assistant II divides their time, working twenty hours a week in Systems and twenty hours a week in Special Collections & Archives. The Assistant works closely with other library staff to provide user services. The Library Assistant II reports to the Library Systems Manager.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

Systems (20 hours/week)

Kent Library's Systems unit provides excellent user services to students, faculty, staff, and community guests. The Heather MacDonald Greene Multimedia Center (HMGMC) assists users in developing their digital skills. The Systems unit is responsible for creating and updating library webpages and graphics. Systems also provides and supports library faculty and staff software and hardware. This position contributes to managing library management system (LMS) accounts and digital resources.

  • Share in staffing the HMGMC and support Southeast students, faculty and staff in learning and improving their digital skills

  • Assist in LMS management by assigning permissions, implementing and managing modules, and training end users

  • Works with library faculty and staff to create and maintain content on the library website

  • Lead online resources access management in the library user authentication system

Special Collections & Archives (20 hours/week) 

Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) acquires, preserves and makes accessible resources and research materials that document the history of southeast Missouri and Southeast Missouri State University. This position focuses on supporting user discovery of, and access to, SC&A resources.

  • Provide one-on-one information, collection and other assistance to students, faculty, staff and community guests 

  • Participate in staffing the SC&A reference desk and interact with users

  • Create digital reproductions of materials for users and appropriate documentation

  • Assist with physical and virtual exhibit creation, set-up and take-down

  • Share in training and managing SC&A student employees

  • Manage archival materials shelving and collection maintenance processes

  • Lead tours for SC&A users and visitors

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma

  • One year of related work experience

  • Experience with, and an understanding of, excellent customer service

  • Foundational computer software skills

  • Able to learn and build software and technical skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Evidence of research experience

  • Experience creating and editing webpages 

  • Ability to work successfully independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Evidence of attention to detail, accuracy and organizational skills
