Library Assistant II, Acquisitions – Receiving

Kent Library

Full Time, 12 month position

Acquisitions is responsible for ordering, receiving, initial processing, and payment of all collections materials purchased, licensed, and subscribed to by Kent Library. The unit has two Library Assistant IIs, one focused on ordering materials and the other on receiving materials.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain files for all ordered materials and received items
  • Locate, verify, and edit bibliographic and item records
  • Create and update order records in the library management system
  • Communicate with vendors regarding orders delayed, damaged, or non-received items
  • Search multiple vendor databases for hard-to-find items and place orders
  • Adhere to university standards regarding purchasing-card (p-card) use
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external constituents
  • Problem-solve for colleagues, academic department faculty, and library users
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the library management system and business software
  • Serve as designee for data entry and reconciliation for other p-card holders

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year of library experience or demonstrated customer service experience
  • Knowledge of cataloging standards or the ability to learn and follow the rules for describing library materials
  • Evidence of research experience
  • Able to learn and build software skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Evidence of attention to detail, accuracy and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work successfully independently and as part of a team
  • Able to lift 30 pounds daily with or without accommodations
