The Research and Engagement Librarian is responsible for maintaining the reference and instruction efforts of Reeves Library. This role, in assistance with the Director, will also focus on the engagement of our Library users through programming, workshops, marketing and social media. While focusing on research support and instruction, this role is expected to assist library patrons with the use of library resources, evaluation methods and search techniques, as well as provide instruction and other in class needs to help support student learning and information literacy to the full Westminster campus. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting first year students, international students, first generation students as well as transfer students. This position will also assist in the managing and training of our student employees that assist with front desk duties during the day, as well as evenings and weekends. 

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  •  Provide reference and research services to library users both in person and online. 
  • Assist in developing, delivering and the maintenance of research services, instructional/library guides, as well as new initiatives within the scope of research and instruction. This includes assessments of current services as well as utilizing data analysis to drive student centered decisions. 
  • Create, implement and host various library events and programs that fit within the mission of Westminster College, as well as Reeves Library. 
  • Assist in the creation of graphics and marketing materials to promote library resources and services on our various social media platforms. 
  • Assist in the hiring, training and supervising of student workers that cover the service desk and serve as study zone monitors to provide quality customer service and basic assistance to library users.
  • Assist in the overseeing of our front desk services and supplies. 
  • Prepare visual displays throughout the library such as featured books, informational signage and bulletin boards 
  • Manage the Library Student Advisory Board and coordinate with them to host programs, staff tables at campus events, and other projects as assigned. 
  • Maintain the library’s daily operations by providing secondary backup assistance to the other areas of the library as needed, such as Interlibrary Loan and MOBIUS requests. 
  • Work with other departments, organizations and clubs across campus to strengthen our relationship with the Westminster community. 
  • Maintain up-to-date manual describing functions and procedures needed to perform your job. 
  • Assists in directly supervises student workers for the various service areas throughout the library. This can include the library front desk, study zone monitors, as well as any other student workers as requested by the Director. 

Job Requirements:

Education: MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution. 

Experience: Minimum of one year of higher education experience, preferably academic library experience. One year of reference experience in an academic setting or demonstrated relevant graduate-level coursework, and excellent reference interview skills and interpersonal communication skills. Minimum one year of experience teaching in an educational or professional setting, or demonstrated relevant graduate-level coursework, with evidence of strong interest in learning, implementing, and teaching using current and emerging information technologies. This position would be a great fit for an entry level or early career librarian. 

Skills: Requires a strong service orientation, and the ability to multi-task while remaining organized. Must be comfortable working with and addressing large crowds, as well as working 1:1 with students, faculty and staff. Ability to work as part of a team within the department and be willing to both collaborate and communicate effectively will be crucial to the success of this position. This role should also feel comfortable engaging with new technologies as well as innovative solutions.
