Job Summary

Plans, organizes, and evaluates library resources and staff to assist in meeting the educational mission of the university; establishes procedures, policies and systems for effective library operation; communicates with university administration, faculty, and staff to identify informational and instructional needs and acquire resources to meet those needs; prepares library budget; represents the library on campus and off campus.

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Librarianship (MLS) from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Minimum of five years progressively more responsible library administrative experience, preferably in an academic library.
  • Knowledge of all operational areas of an academic library, including reference, circulation, cataloging, and acquisitions
  • Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications.
  • Ability to speak publicly before large groups of people.
  • Ability to understand and utilize computer applications effectively and to operate a microcomputer and peripheral hardware.
  • Ability to work successfully with people of varying educational and cultural backgrounds and experience levels.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other library and university employees.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, solve problems creatively and constructively, cope with a changing work environment, and be self-motivated.
