Charge: The MOBIUS Crossroads Task Force, Sub-Task Force on Emerging Technologies is an advisory sub-unit responsible for analyzing emerging technology options for MOBIUS and reporting findings that can influence the ongoing success of MOBIUS and its vision for the future. This includes a review of the technologies currently available, both from vendors and open source, and surveying the landscape for horizon issues.  Initially the group will focus on the next generation options for the MOBIUS union catalog and patron-initiated borrowing system.

Statement of reporting structure: The report will be submitted to the MOBIUS Crossroads Task Force Chair for inclusion in a final recommendation to the MOBIUS Executive Committee.
 
Membership: Open to any person willing to serve as a volunteer in the success of the future of MOBIUS;chair is a 2009/2010 member of the MOBIUS Executive Committee, appointed by the chair of the MOBIUS Crossroads Task Force.
 
Member qualifications:  A willingness to work hard and possess or develop an understanding of user needs and technological options for meeting those needs through MOBIUS.
 
Membership Restrictions: Employment in a Missouri library. 
 
Frequency of Meetings: As called by the sub-task force chair; members may attend via videoconferencing, conference call, etc.
 
Sub-Task Force Discussion List: Discussion list is open to members of the Sub-Task Force only; members may wish to request that MCO create a blog for other input.
 
Communication of the Sub-Task Force Minutes: It is the responsibility of the chair of the sub-task force to post notification of meetings to the MOBIUS web calendar two weeks prior to the date of a meeting and to take, or cause to be taken, minutes of all meetings of the sub-task force. Minutes of meetings must be submitted to the MOBIUS Online Help Desk for posting on the MOBIUS web site within 30 days of each meeting and are accessible to any person with the proper MOBIUS permissions. Notification of posting will be sent to the appropriate consortium listserv.
 
Output: The Sub-Task Force chair will prepare a report to the Crossroads Task Force by December 15, 2009. The report will include the following:
 
  • MOBIUS community user’s technology needs
  • Trends in technological development for libraries
  • Options for MOBIUS, including cost information (if available)
  • Recommendations for action
