Job Summary

The Director of the Hamra Library is responsible for planning and directing the operations of the Hamra Library. Major responsibilities include supervision of Library staff, collection development, and representing the Hamra Library to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Responsible for fiscally prudent and innovative long-range planning related to Hamra Library facilities, collection, and services.
  • Ensure the goals, priorities, and activities of the Hamra Library are fully aligned with those of the College through completion of the College’s annual planning process.
  • Supervise full-time Hamra Library staff, to include assisting Dean in hiring process, day-to-day management, scheduling, and annual evaluation.
  • Supervise part-time Hamra Library staff, to include hiring of part-time staff, day-today management, and scheduling.
  • Manage collection development, to include ensuring collection is adequate and appropriate to meet needs of students, faculty, and staff. Will incorporate input from Library staff appointed as liaisons to academic areas of the College to accomplish this task.
  • Manage patron financial encumbrances, to include placing and removing OTC Library (LI) holds and processing MOBIUS fees.
  • Manage Hamra Library budget, to include completing purchase orders, check requests, handling staff travel requests and reimbursements, ordering of supplies, and management of departmental p-card.
  • Conduct regular department meetings and meetings of the Library Advisory Committee.
  • Represent the Hamra Library in a professional manner at College councils and committees, and at area, state, and regional library consortia, such as SWAN and MOBIUS.
  • Maintain Hamra Library web page(s).
  • Produce departmental displays and documents, to include an annual usage report submitted to the Dean.
  • Provide Library Orientation classroom tours as requested and scheduled.
  • Provide friendly and effective service for patrons at Reference/Circulation desk as needed.
  • Provide patrons with one-on-one research assistance as needed.
  • Assist patrons with library related questions via live chat during work hours.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, including serving on committees and attending community events.
