Acquisitions Manager/Administrative Assistant

Job summary: 
Assists the Director of Library and Information Services and the Technical Services Coordinator with all non-professional management functions of the library, including budget management; oversees the ordering and processing of all purchases of books, periodicals, furnishings, equipment, supplies, and other materials; oversees all library contracts for equipment and services; oversees the management of the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. (III) integrated library system (ILS) acquisitions system; trains and supervises student assistants to assist with acquisitions and administrative functions.

Required qualifications: 
  • Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three years of experience in a library or office environment, or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience.
  • Ability to operate computers and knowledge of a variety of computer hardware and software applications.
  • Ability to search online and basic knowledge of appropriate bibliographic databases.
  • Ability to use a copy machine, typewriter, telephone and other basic office equipment.
  • Excellent mathematical skills, ability to use a calculator for performing arithmetic calculations.
  • High tolerance for attention to details in dealing with requests for, and processing of, library materials.
  • Strong supervisory and instructional ability for working with student assistants.
  • Strong organizational skills, initiative, and good judgment in completing a wide variety of tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, callers to the library, donors and vendors.
  • Discretion in maintaining confidentiality of library records.
