Whoa! A NEW InnReach Design! And Screencasts!
More important than this quick note, I wanted to post a few screencasts that go over some of the changes in the new design, and give an introduction to using the new InnReach.
I hope that these two videos will help bridge the gap while you create new documentation and training materials on your end, but also want to say just one more time that this is really little more than a new look. Don't be intimidated! You won't have a hard time doing all the same stuff!
You will need something to play these videos. If you have issues, download the quicktime player (free) from Apple:

New libraries in the Label Maker
Good Morning:
MCO has added approximately 70 libraries to the label maker. These are
libraries that had been added over time by KCMLIN to their label maker but
were not present in ours. The addresses for MOBIUS and older KCMLIN labels
are still current so if your institution prints out labels beforehand they
can still be used. Please let me know of any revisions that need to be made.

Results of the Second Card Sort
So, we just wrapped up the second of our card sorts. What's a card sort? You can read the Wikipedia article on card sorting, but basically it's a method that allows us to get an idea of how users would classify the content of our site by asking them to group items, or cards, into groups. The first time we did an "open sort" where users were able to group the items and then *name* the categories. This time, for the "closed sort" we gave users empty groups with the names already set (based on the results of the open sort) and asked them to sort all of the cards into those groups.
If you would like to view the results of the closed sort, I have created a nicely formatted Google Doc. There is no login required.
Method for Color Coded Results
At the top, you will see the legend explaining the color codes. There wasn't a ton of space available, so I wanted to explain the method used to determine each of the "levels of agreement".
- 80% or more of users in agreement - When 80% or more of users who participated agreed that a given card should be placed into the same group, we can be pretty certain that this is the proper place.
- High agreement - Less than the 80%, but still a majority. We consider the two categories with most agreement for a given item. If the lower number is less than half of the higher number - we take the higher one as the definitive answer. For example: Executive Committee was placed in the Committees & Task Forces group 15 times, and the About MOBIUS group only 4 times - Committees & Task Forces is where it belongs.
- Split agreement - If any two or more categories have been choosen and the difference between them is less than 50%, then it is reasonable to consider them as both. For example: MOBIUS Council was placed in Committees & Task Forces 9 times and also the About MOBIUS group 9 times. Compared directly to the previous example, this seems a little odd - but clearly our users feel very strongly that MOBIUS Council belongs in both places.
Next Step
Overall the results are very clear. We will begin constructing a full tree, and will soon be ready for the third and (hopefully) final step of actually testing the ease with which users can find a given item. Keep an eye out for that in the next 2 weeks.
MOBIUS Regional Training Days & TRAINING Discussion List
Greetings.
It gives me great pleasure to announce that MCO will offer regional training days for Spring 2010. Resumption of regional, in-person training was one of the strongest requests on the Fall 2009 training survey. MCO wants to bring customized training directly to the MOBIUS members.
So what are we training on and where? That is up to you! The MTRAIN-L discussion list (used mostly for announcements) has been replaced with TRAINING, a new discussion list where we would like to hear from you. To subscribe, please click on the following link.
http://po.mobius.umsystem.edu/mailman/listinfo/training
In the section “Subscribing to Training” enter your email address and click on Subscribe (you may also enter your name and configure a password, if you like). Note that the list has been pre-populated with the MOBIUS Site Coordinators and Council representatives, so you may already have been subscribed. If you wish to UNSUBSCRIBE from the list, click on the above link, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, enter your email address and click Unsubscribe or edit options.
MCO has identified 4 potential regions for training: Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield, and Columbia/mid-Missouri. We would like to hold a day’s worth of training in each region during Spring 2010. Training days may focus on a single topic (e.g., Millennium Acquisitions) or be split into several shorter sessions (e.g., two 3-hour or three 2-hour workshops). The aim of the regional workshops is to provide the training you want in a convenient location.
If you want a say in the training offered by MCO, what is covered, and where it is held, please subscribe to TRAINING. We look forward to hearing from you.
